The Big Game: Girls vs. Boys

It finally happened!  The first grade boys had been wanting to play the second grade girls in an exhibition basketball game for the past two months.  I have heard all about it for so long!  These boys just might have crushes on some of these girls...and this might have something to do with why they were so excited about the big game.  You would have thought they were playing for the National Championship.  We even had two professional photographers at the game to capture every move!  Big props to Matt at Focused On Fun Photography and Catherine Clay, too.  So nice for us that both of their kids played in the game.  Bonus!

 

By 10am, #7 had his sweatband on.  The kid was ready for action!

 

Coach Ray gave them a good pep talk and the boys were all set.

 

The Mavs came to play and started off strong.


 

They were in one-on-one defense and so serious about this all-important game.

He looks at least 12 to me!

J Man got lots of steals--Go Jackson!

But the girls were not pushovers by any stretch!

Gimme that ball!

We'd never seen the Mavericks play such intense defense before!

Jackson took one last look at the clock and took a shot at the buzzer.  Swoosh!  The boys were up 10 - 5 at the half.

Coach let #7 rest for most of the third quarter and then it was go time again.

The kid was all over the court and got a few more steals.

Anna tried her best and stayed with him a lot.  The girls actually had the height advantage!

They made him work...

and he had to earn all 4 baskets.

Good thing he had that sweatband on!

The kid was sweating like crazy by the end.

It was a really fun game and they had the most fans out of the whole season come to watch.  People that didn't even have kids playing came to see the game.  It was the big community event!

 

Both teams played really well, but the boys won 20 - 6. 

Way to go, everyone!  It was such a fun event and a game that the kids hope to play every year.
