Sunday Afternoon Nap

The little guy finally gave out at 5:30 this afternoon. Guess he does still need his nap, although good luck trying to convince him of that.

Then again, maybe it was the oh-s0-thrilling golf game that was on our t.v.

2 year check-up

Today was Jackson's 2 year well check-up and he did so good! First he started out by getting his height measured.

He came in at a very tall 37 inches, which put him way above the 95th percentile. He's definitely going to be a big boy!

Then he moved over to the big boy scale. He weighs 29 lbs, which puts him close to the 50th percentile.

After both of those, we moved into the exam room and he had his eyes and ears checked. He also got one shot and was a champ. He got an A plus from the doctor and a sucker to take home. Way to go, big guy:)

Handyman Extraordinaire

Jackson has a strong affection for all tools, so the workbench has been a HUGE hit. He carries around his hammer, saw and screwdriver and is always ready to fix something if the need arises.

Guess all he needs now is a tool belt. Surely Boompaw can hook us up with one of those!

In the Driver's Seat

The past few days whenever we get ready to go somewhere, I have found Jackson sitting in my driver's seat. Yesterday I opened the car door, put down my purse and then ran back inside for something.

I heard lots of squealing and ran out to find Jackson with his hands on the steering wheel just grinning with delight.

The same thing happened again today, except this time the squealing was replaced with one big loud horn honk! Excuse me, sir, am I holding you up?!

More Birthday

Last night we celebrated Jackson's birthday...again! He is now 2 years old and is probably not going to know what to think when everyone stops singing "Happy Birthday" to him and bringing over presents.

When I got the camera out tonight, Jackson started saying "cheese!"

Gigi, Madison and Boompaw came over first for the party.

Then Memaw and Poppy arrived for the fun.

After we had some very good Campisi's pizza, we let Jackson blow out two candles on his cupcakes.

The boy likes cupcakes!! He ate two yesterday and was asking for more!

After dinner, Jackson got to open his presents from his grandparents and from us. Here he is taking a spin on his very cool Texas Longhorns Tricycle. Jared and I got him a work bench, but it took a while to put together so I'll post some pics of that later this week. It was a really big hit and I don't think he put down his hammer or screwdriver for at least an hour! He also got a cool train set from Memaw and Poppy that I know he's going to love. Jackson can't wait for his friends to come over and play with all his new toys! Ok, maybe that was not an entirely true statement since sharing isn't so much his favorite thing, but really, he's got about a bazillion toys now, so he can't possibly play with them all at once.

Happy 2nd Birthday, Jackson!

I can hardly believe that it's already time for me to do this post. It really doesn't seem possible that Jared and I are the proud parents of the best little boy that God ever created (we are a little biased, I know). How did Jackson get to be 2 years old?! I have no idea. We have been having so much fun with him that I guess the past 24 months just flew by us.

Jackson is learning new things every day, has an amazing memory, loves all of his grandparents so very much and is especially fond of Miss Madison. He has a fantastic personality, an infectious laugh and is so fun to be around. Since today is his actual birthday, we are doing whatever he wants all day. So far he has slept in, ate a cinnamon roll for breakfast, went to Little Gym (b/c he told me that's what he wanted to do and we had a make-up class to do), had lots of goldfish for a snack, ate lunch (which included ham, cheese, chips and more goldfish), helped me bake and decorate cupcakes and then straight up refused a nap. Oh yeah, he's also had a few calls and even a text message wishing him a happy birthday:) Tonight the grandparents are coming over to celebrate with us, so I'm sure his day is only going to get better.

Happy Birthday, sweet boy. We love you!!!

Jackson's Birthday Party

We had Jackson's birthday party at The Little Gym yesterday afternoon. It was so much fun and I think everyone had a good time. We did an Elmo theme, since he think's Elmo hung the moon. Here he is checking out his cake for the first time.

I was a little nervous that he was so close to the cake!

Let's get this party started, Judah!

Jackson climbing up the wall and sliding down the front--a big, big hit!

Taking a ride on the parachute as we all sing happy birthday to him

Having fun with Uncle Scott who came in from Lubbock for Jackson's big day:)

Bouncing on the air track with all the other kiddos

Riding on the donut. Side note: we had donuts for breakfast, so when the instructors asked if anyone wanted to ride the donut, Jackson started hollering "yummy!"

Miss Madison patiently waiting for some cake:)

Happy Birthday, Jackson! He was so intrigued that they turned out the lights for this part.

Enjoying some yummy, yummy cake--always one of my favorite parts.

The birthday boy with all his friends. Thanks for celebrating with us today!

We didn't have time to open presents at the gym, so we let him dig in right when we got home. He had such a blast opening all the presents...what a difference a year makes! Last year I was the one opening everything and just trying to convince him to sit somewhere near me.

One of the big hits of the night was the piano that Gigi and Boom got him. Miss Madison thought it was just as cool as Jackson did--what a great smile.

Another big hit of the night were the bowling pins from Uncle Scott. He looks like such a pro in this pic...gearing up for his next strike!

This is way cool!

Elton John playing us a song:) The piano also has a microphone, so we got to hear Jackson sing (mostly just "la la la") and play. So fun.

Happy Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day to my two sweet guys! I could not love either one of you any more. We had a great day yesterday and started off by giving Dad a little homemade Valentine:) I did the writing, cutting and taping and Jackson did the coloring.
Jackson giving his daddy the valentine.

Mommy and her little man

Daddy and his number one fan. The reason Jackson has such a mischievious look on his face is because he is sticking his finger in Jared's ear! I agree, pretty funny!

Monkey on my back

Since all of us have been sick these past few days, we've had to be quarantined in our house (not really, but it's a nasty stomach bug and we do not want to get anyone else sick). Being home bound really makes you use your imagination and find all new kinds of entertainment. For example, today Jackson and I played hide-and-go-seek for a while, but when I got tired of hiding I came up with a new game. The new game is called "Hey Jackson, wanna give Mike the Monkey a piggyback ride?" Of course he loved it and started going all around the house singing the song that I sing when I take Jackson for a piggyback ride.

After he'd made a lap or two around the living room, he decided it was time to go outside. Not so much an option since it was raining, but it was a good idea.

I suggested he take Mike for a spin in the house again and he took me literally and began spinning in circles, which is what got this huge grin:)

After a few more minutes, he decided the game was over and it was time for Mike's piggyback ride to end. Wonder what we're going to do now?!

Funny to me

Living with Jackson really is like having your own personal comedian in the house. He keeps us laughing on a very regular basis. One of my favorite things this week is his latest fascination with this picture. The other day he was looking at some pictures in our bedroom. He came across this one that was taken by my dear friend Taylor ( 3 days before I gave birth. I explained that the reason my belly was so big was because he was inside it. He looked at the picture quite pensively, looked at my belly, pulled up my shirt, pointed to my belly and said "emp-ee" (empty).

Now just at random times of the day, he will bring me this picture, point to my belly and say "emp-ee, emp-ee." It cracks me up every time.
Think it's a hint?!

Italian Chicken & Vegetable Soup

My friend Hayley gave me this recipe the other day and it was so delicious that I just had to share. Hope you all like it as much as we did!

1 Roasted chicken or 3 chicken breasts (roasted chicken is easier since you don't have to boil it...just take off the skin and cut it into bite size pieces)
3 zucchinis
1/2 small bag of carrots, diced
1/2 onion, diced (I just get the pre-diced onion)
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 cans diced tomatoes with basil and oregano
2 cans chicken broth (14 1/2 oz)
1 teaspoon minced garlic
salt and pepper to taste
shredded mozzarella cheese

1. Saute the carrots in the olive oil on medium heat for 10 min.
2. Add the chicken, zucchinis and diced onion and saute until all veggies are soft. You might need to add a little more olive oil.
3. Add tomatoes, chicken broth and minced garlic
4. Bring to a boil, then turn to low and simmer for 30 minutes.
5. Add cheese after you put soup into your individual bowls.

My day, so far

Today's original plan:

8:15 : Wake up Jackson, feed him breakfast, get him dressed for school
9:00: Drop him off at school
9:30: Take Tyson to the vet
10 - 2: Workout, run errands, eat lunch, basically enjoy my few hours of freedom!
2:30: Playdate with Hunter and Carole

What actually happened:
8:15: Go in to wake up Jackson and find throw-up in his bed. I asked him what it was and he told me "poopy." I'm pretty sure he just said that, though, because he had a poopy diaper. I strip him down, change his diaper and take the sheets off the bed. I then see that some vomit is actually in his hair, so off we go to the bath.

8:30: After refusing to eat any of his pancakes, he takes two bites of a banana and drinks half a glass of milk. Appoximately 1 minute later, it all comes back up. Yikes!

8:40: I call the school to let them know that he won't be there and then call Jackson's Memaw to see if she can watch him for a few minutes while I take our dog to the vet.

9:30: At the vet with Tyson. I had to leave the little guy so that they could run some tests. Just heard back and there are all sorts of things wrong with him. I seriously feel like we have been the worst dog parents now b/c we don't really pay too much attention to them anymore.

11:30: Called Carole to cancel our playdate
12:00: Gave Jackson a piece of toast, sprite and some pedialyte spiked with cherry kool aid (otherwise, Pedialyte gets a big fat "no thank you.")
12:30: Changed another super poopy diaper

3:30: Just heard back from the vet. Tyson has high cholesterol, low thyroid (which has made him gain weight), and an infection in both eyes, with possible glacoma in one of them. She said that we may need to take him to an eye doctor. Oh my! Who even knew there were doggie eye doctors? Hopefully some antibiotics and eyedrops will be able to cure all of this and he'll be feeling better very soon.

Just one of those days, I guess. Surely tomorrow will be better and less poopy, I hope! Hope the little guy feels MUCH better after his nap today:)

On the go!

Jackson has been on the move lately. He loves riding his four wheeler around the house, but is not the best at steering it yet, so I suggested we take it outside. No walls to crash into! He's kind of figuring out that he has the ability to change the direction that the four wheeler is going, only his method of steering involves putting his feet down instead of moving the handle bars. Oh well...I'm sure he'll get there soon enough:)

Going for a drive on the sidewalk in front of our house.

Riding it a little dangerously. He has also been known to ride it backwards!

Giving Madison a ride on his choo choo train yesterday. She did really good and only fell off once (no biggie, I was right there to catch her)!
